While a tough stone at 9.0 on the Mohs hardness scale, it is best to protect your Sapphire from bumps and knocks that could chip the setting or even the stone.
Cleaning & Inspection
Clean with a lint free cloth or gently scrub with soft brush and warm soapy water or a jewelry cleaner that is safe for Sapphire.
Have your Sapphire jewelry deep cleaned and inspected for loose stones and damage yearly. Your jeweler can tighten any loose prongs or fix any other problems with the setting to make sure your stone stays secure and protected.
They will usually use ultrasonic or steaming methods to deep clean, this can cause permanent damage to your stone if it has significant inclusions, so make sure the jeweler inspects your stone first.
Storage
Store your Sapphire jewelry separately from the rest of your jewelry as it can easily scratch other stones or even be scratched by diamonds in your jewelry collection. Missy suggests purchasing small individual jewelry pouches or a jewelry box with individual compartments to safely organize your jewelry.
